07.03.24 Back on the Martesana... / Di Nuovo sulla Martesana...

Another session of El Mercatel on Sunday 7th and the weather forecast says it's going to be sunny with temperatures up to 23°C. I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.

So what will I be selling? There'll be  all my usual stuff, which you can see on the other posts in this blog, but also a couple of new items. In particular, some of my vegetables are now ready to find a new home. I'll be taking aubergines, zucchini, cucumbers and yellow peppers, as well as some lovely dwarf peas. They only reach about 45 cms, so they're perfect to grow on a balcony.

Quindi cosa venderò? Ci saranno tutti i miei soliti articoli, che puoi vedere negli altri post di questo blog, ma anche un paio di novità. In particolare, alcune delle mie piantine sono pronte per trovare una nuova casa. Porterò piantine di melanzane, zucchine, cetrioli, peperoni gialli e piselli nani. I piselli raggiungono solo circa 45 cm, quindi sono perfetti da coltivare su un balcone

My wallflowers are now looking spectacular, so they'll be there, and if it's warm enough in the early morning I shall also be taking an Agleonema - a houseplant with lovely cream and green leaves. I divided a large one last November, and all three of the resulting plants have done well and are now putting out new leaves. 

Le mie violaccocche gialli ora sono spettacolari, quindi ci saranno, e se fa abbastanza caldo porterò anche un Agleonema - una pianta da interni con foglie verdi e crema bellissime. Ne ho diviso una grande lo scorso novembre, e tutti e tre le piante risultanti si sono sviluppate bene e stanno ora mettendo fuori nuove foglie.

Then there will be my usual range of succulents, and all the other things that I sell - from books on balcony gardening to seeds to greetings cards. There's no message inside the cards so you can use them for birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day or just to accompany a "thank you" present.

Allora ci saranno le mie solite piante grasse, e tutte le altre cose che vendo - dai libri sulla coltivazione in balcone ai semi ai biglietti d'auguri. All'interno dei biglietti non c'è nessun messaggio, quindi puoi usarli per compleanni, anniversari, la festa della mamma o semplicemente per accompagnare un regalo di ringraziamento.

But the market isn't the only thing to see on the Martesana. I've been out for a walk several times this week and have loved looking at the trees and flowers in bloom, and the birds and animals. The wisteria is in full bloom and the canal is full of ducklings, a couple of terrapins have taken up residence, and I've spotted a woodpecker and some parakeets, as well as all the other birds that live there - from blackbirds to great tits to moorhens to magpies. So if you feel like a walk in the sunshine, come along and see what you can add to the list!

Ma il mercato non è l'unica cosa da vedere sulla Martesana. Sono uscito a fare una passeggiata diverse volte questa settimana e ho visto tanti fiori, uccelli e animali. La glicine è in piena fioritura e il canale è pieno di pulcini di anatra. Un paio di tartarughe hanno fatto casa vicino al ponte della ferrovia e ho avvistato un picchio e alcuni pappagalli, oltre a tanti altri uccelli: merli, cinciarelle, gallinelle d'acqua e gazze ladre. Quindi, se hai voglia di fare una passeggiata al sole, vieni e vedi cosa puoi aggiungere alla lista!
